When Friction Points Keep You from Driving Forward
I need this truck for my business.
Ever spotted something so simple, yet genius, that you thought, “I wish I had that”?
Yup, that was me, starting at the “Pothole Person” truck this morning.
Metaphorically, potholes are a lot like the annoying little issues in my business.
They’re small, but if you don’t deal with them, they slow you down.
The problem is, you can continue to evade them and put up with them. But there comes a point, where if you don't fix the pothole, they get bigger and bigger.
Here’s where I could use my own Pothole Person:
- FAQs: I used to be so on top of answering common questions, but now I spend too much time re-answering things instead of creating a system.
- Email templates: Why am I still writing responses from scratch for inquiries I get all the time? I need templates – and yesterday.
- Process fixes: Some of my systems feel like they’re held together with duct tape.
And it’s not just small businesses. Even in big organisations, these potholes exist:
- Scheduling meetings: Trying to find a time that works for everyone’s calendars feels like a never-ending puzzle.
- Email overload: Important messages getting buried under a pile of “Reply All” threads.
- Forgotten approvals: Chasing down a quick approval that somehow takes days because it slipped through the cracks.
- Unclear action items: Leaving a meeting without clear next steps or responsibilities, causing delays as people figure out what to do next.
Whether you’re a founder or a leader, we all face these friction points that slow down progress.
Is it time for you to fix these, or are you content just slowing down and driving by this time..?
-> How do you smooth out the friction points at work? Any tips for tackling them?
