Do You Really Love Cruising… Or Is It Just the Free Drinks?

A different start to my Monday, waking up on the Pacific Ocean.

This is the first time I’ve been on a cruise ship.

I didn’t think it was for me (spoiler alert: Now I know it’s not for me in my current era).

I have enough self-awareness to know that while I love group dynamics, when it comes to going on a holiday…. Well, lets just say, I’m not in my zone of excellence when it comes with dealing with others on a group travel experience. I’m way too impatient.

So, I’m saying all of that to line up that my expectations were low, stepping aboard this three day “country music” cruise

(I didn’t think I’d ever like country music either, then Luke Combs stepped into the world).

All of that aside, I’ve tried to channel a growth mindset/openness on the boat.

If you’ve been cruising before, you’d understand that the second you step on, there’s a whole new sub culture.

🚢 People on elevators are friendlier.
🚢 It’s okay for 16 people to wear matching Hawaiian tops and cowboy boots.
🚢Decorating your cabin door is a “thing”.

I think for me, it’s a reminder that if you want to change, the single most powerful thing to change actually has NOTHING to do with you.

It’s all of those external factors:
- Your environment…
- Who you’re surrounded by
- New group norms / levels of expectations (good, or bad).

We’re social animals and we conform to what we see around us.

On that note, time for me to throw on that Hawaiian shirt one last time….

Ps. Curious: Do you love the cruising life?
