What Would It Mean for You to Earn Your Name?
“What would it mean for you to earn your name?"
Yeah, I know. Such a powerful question.
(Nice one, Dr. Jason Fox (wizard).
But yes, this question floored me during a windy, wizardly walking experience in Melbourne yesterday.
Not because I had some brilliant answer, but because I realised I've never actually thought about it properly.
I mean....What does it mean to earn your name?
Most of us spend our time chasing stuff. More followers, bigger stages, better titles, fancier clients. But this question cuts right through all that noise.
Because earning your name means defining your own legacy instead of just collecting other people's validation.
It means defining your own metrics, instead of taking on societal demands/what other people tell you is important to focus on (so hard to do)!
I love this question because it triggers other ones like:
- What's the force I want to create?
- Where should I direct my energy?
- What does it mean to step up and fully be Leanne Hughes (not just the version I think people want to see)?
But let me rewind...
I'm flying back from Brisbane after spending an incredibly inspired 48 hours in Melbourne hosted by the indomitable duo of Dr Jason Fox and 📚Michael Bungay Stanier in Melbourne.
Fourteen strangers(/ish...I knew a few folks) met for an early dinner on Sunday night, followed by coffee + convos Monday morning, a bus trip to our walking kick-off spot, and a meandering 20km hike along the Yarra (although the weather had other plans), an emergency train trip evacuation ok, a little dramatic) followed by a shared meal + drinks to celebrate and reflect and laugh.
I feel incredibly lucky to have been part of such an amazing, unique, experience.
And I'd love you to get outside, walk and contemplate that question that Jason posed to us at the beginning of our walk together....
